Gathering your school children together in prayer is an ideal way to begin a class. Prayer stills the body, focuses the mind, and reminds us of what is really important in life. As you pray you may wish to invite your students to make some kind of physical preparation as well, such as closing eyes, bringing their hands together or folding arms, depending on the age range involved. These small steps will help to bring a moment of stillness and remind us that something special is about to happen. Before praying, you may also want to remind them of who they are about to talk to, for example by saying "we're about to talk to the one who made all the beautiful things we see in nature, who loves us and cares deeply for each one of us here". "Cheeky Monkey TV" is a fun way of helping children pray to God onilne. In this episode, Monkey learns that God is everywhere, and leads us in a short opening prayer to say before starting class:-
Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.
Proverbs 22:6, (NIV)
Lord, we thank you for everyone who is here today. Thank you that each one of us is special and loved by you. Today we give all the things that we will learn together. Help us to understand everything that we see and hear, and may we enjoy being together and learning more about this beautiful world. Amen.
