Non-Denominational Prayers
Featured on this page are several examples of prayers appropriate for meetings where people of different faiths, or different Christian denominations are present. The first invocation is a non-denominational prayer reflecting on how God's love can work through us all. The second prayer is for non-denominational Christian gatherings (e.g. where Catholic, Anglican, Baptist or Methodist faiths might be meeting in a unity service together). There is also an uplifting prayer for closing a meeting and an inspiring short video with an opening prayer.
Non-denominational prayer for opening a meeting
(a modern invocation)
God of Heaven and Earth,
Today we thank you for your love for us. Thank you that your love is poured into every intricate aspect of creation and released to live within our hearts here on Earth. We come together as your children, brothers and sisters, to lift you high over our lives. Thank you that your love can bring great change, hope and life to all. Come God and awaken our spirits to worship. May we learn and grow together as we meet and celebrate now.
Amen.

Invocation Prayer Example
Almighty God,
As we stand in awe of your goodness and mercy today, we invite you to be present amongst us by the power of your Holy Spirit. Father, we declare that we love you. Thank you that you have made the way of love known through your son Jesus Christ. We pray that you would reveal this great love to us all today as we gather to worship. Lead us by your Spirit to praise you. May our hearts overflow with thanksgiving and our mouths proclaim your everlasting greatness.
In the wonderful name of Jesus we pray,
Amen.

An uplifting prayer suitable for playing at the opening of a meeting or worship service:-
How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!
Psalm 133:1 (NIV)
Lord, thank you that we are a family in Christ. Help us to share his love and legacy with everyone that we encounter this week. May we lavish Christ’s abounding goodness upon our families, friends and colleagues. Holy Spirit, come and equip us in our workplace, guide us in our school life, and inspire us in our neighbourhood. May we be your hands and feet to the needy, your words of affirmation to the oppressed and your arms of comfort to the lonely.
Thank you for choosing to use us to bring your kingdom here on earth.
Amen.
