Short Prayers

Prayers don't have to be long. Prayer is really about having a conversation. If you imagine ringing somebody, often these can be very short chats -
"Hi Geoff - see you at the station, love you, bye"
"Sarah, what time will you be back for tea? Thanks"

Sometimes a really short prayer to God can make all the difference to your situation. Maybe you've just woken up and you feel really rubbish.
"God as I open my eyes to the world, please open my eyes to what you want me to do in it today!"
Try this as a short morning prayer tomorrow and see where it leads you.
Short prayers can be useful in times of stress or crisis in the day. "Be still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10, WEB) - this is the other side of the conversation - God speaking to us. Try committing these words to memory and repeating them when you find yourself in the storms of life.
And at nightfall, you may only have time for a quick evening prayer before bed. Think for a moment about your day and recall one thing you would like to say thank you to God for. For example - "Lord, thank you for my home. I am so grateful, Amen". Filling our minds with thankfulness helps to dispel fear and anxiety, and leads to much sounder sleep!

Short Thanksgiving Prayer

Lord, thank you for walking with us through the seasons of our lives.

For the winter, when we are held safe in your arms through the darkness.
For the hope of spring, as we are filled with new promise and life.
For summer time, full of warmth and colour
And for autumn days as leaves fall to seed new growth.

You are always with us.

Amen.
